Reading Request

Since I am still waiting for the library's copy of The Kite Runner (recommended by a blogging pal), I was forced to raid my sister's bookshelf in the meantime and picked up Jesus Land by Julia Scheeres. Very fast read, wonderfully written, heavy... and incredibly sad. Oy, the kind of book that makes you feel a little empty after finishing it.

So, in essence, I need to fill back up - Any light and fluffy book recommendations out there? Read anything worthy lately that does not involve AIDS, poverty, incest, transracial families, or child abuse? I'd love to hear about it!

Peace.

  1. I just finished reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It wasn't a light and fluffy read, but I really loved it. It is a true story. Very heavy subject matter... but with a positive ending. So maybe not what you are looking for right now, but I would recommend it.
I just picked up The Friday Night Knitting Club from the library, I will let you know if that is any good.
Sorry I don't have any light read suggestions. I am looking for some myself!

  2. I heard that the new Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is really good. I think it sounds entertaining. Another old book that is totally useless but I enjoyed reading was Intensity by Dean Koontz.

  3. We read Hunger Games in my book club and was fantastic. Although the topic is pretty deep, it is a young adult novel, so it doesn't weigh you down. The second book in the series comes out soon (I think October) and we will be reading that one as well. Catch up and we can go clubbing together (how pathetic that now that we are in our thirties that refers to reading and not shaking our groove thing(not that people actually say groove thing anymore)).

  4. I bet Beth still says "groove thing." Her slang is behind in the times.

  5. By default, because the library just got it in and I had requested it, I am currently reading "The Year of Living Biblically". But, thank you for all your suggestions! I will be looking into them!

And lele - I'd love to come clubbin' - though the book for next month... eh. Doesn't have great reviews. And yes, Kimby, I am hip to the lingo. You would be wise to follow in my (supercool) footsteps.
