Two words : MAC.TRUCK. RUN OVER BY.

Okay, fine.  Five words.  Cut me some slack, I think I am passing on to whatever dimension comes after this crazy one.

I've done this to myself three times now in my life.  I believe I have now finally learned my lesson.  I pinky-promise-swear-to-goodness-will-never-commit-this-unholy-act-again, just let me start to feel better.

I got a flu shot.

Just one of those normal, seasonal, give 'em out to everyone, flu shots.

And it is slowing killing me, I swear.
What do they put into these things?  Okay, total honesty here - I trust the doctors.  So, if they tell me to get the flu shot, I do it.  If they tell me to get my daughter the flu shot, I call around obsessively and try to find her one, because her Pediatrician’s office has been out forever.  Then I forget about it.  So now I have a new conundrum - does she get one?  I liked trusting the doctors... it is must easier.  My forte' is kissing boo-boos and encouraging good behavior and being insanely proud that she has graduated from Pike to Eels in swimming class, not need-medical-schooling kind of stuff.

But now here I am, for the third time in my life after being administered a flu shot, icky-icky ill.  Bone aching, shaking, head pounding, dry coughing - all with no fever.  So it isn't the dreaded swine flu.  No head congestion, no runny nose.  So it isn't a cold.  I double-checked with the nurse before she poked me, she said as long as I am not allergic to eggs, I'm good to go.

Thanks to Tes' love of eggs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I know I'm not allergic to eggs.

So, really - What do they put in these things?!?

  1. Aww, that sucks, bethie. =( Jer and I both get flu shots every year without incident, but I know that some people do have nasty reactions to them. There must be something in there that just doesn't sit right with your body. Hope you feel better soon! <3

  2. Did you get sick at all after receiving all those immunizations to go Ethiopia?

My guess is that you are allergic to something they put in the flu vaccine, like a preservative or something.

But my assumption is that your reaction is freaky rare because, well, you're just like that. So what would be the chances of your not genetically related child having the same freaky reaction? My non-educated guess is that Tes will probably survive the shot.
